Why We Stand Out in Wedding Photography

I didn’t start photography because I loved cameras.

I started because I felt something was missing in photographs.

While studying intermediate, I worked part-time at a small photo studio in Tenali. At that time, I was also writing stories and dreaming about films. I believed photography studios might connect me to the film world. They didn’t. So I quit.

Two months later, my father sent a family photo from Saudi Arabia. It was a simple edited picture — our faces attached together. Technically fine. Emotionally empty.

That moment changed everything.

I realized something important:
In India, we were taking photos — but not preserving memories.

Most photographers were busy giving poses.
No one was asking what the person was feeling.

That gap stayed in my mind.

So I picked up a camera.

Not to create perfect images —
but to understand people.

My first meaningful photograph was on a reel camera. A saree ceremony at someone’s home. I framed it wrong. The light was wrong. Everyone rejected it — my studio owner, the family.

Only one person accepted it.

That day I understood something deeper:

The person inside the frame matters more than everyone outside it.

Since then, I stopped chasing approval.
I started chasing understanding.

At Chikkarams Photography, we don’t begin with poses.

We begin with listening.

People don’t look awkward in front of cameras.
They feel misunderstood.

So before every shoot, I observe. I talk. I slow things down. I help people settle inside first. When that happens, the camera follows naturally.

I don’t solve all emotional problems.

I solve one simple thing:

I help people feel comfortable being themselves.

That’s why many clients say only one line after seeing their photos:

“At least this guy understood what I wanted to see in my photographs.”

That’s enough for me.
